Mmmmm…fresh! My travels took me to Wolfeboro and Moultonborough today, and I was able to provide us with a great, local meal. At the Wolfeboro Farmer’s Market (Thursdays, 1:00-5:00p.m., Clarke Plaza) I scored a fresh loaf of toasted sunflower bread from the good folks at Old Village Bakery in North Conway, a bunch of fresh chard from some cute kiddos, really cool garlic scapes and a frozen, local chicken from Agape farms (they’re at the farmer’s market every week – if you get there early enough you can order a rotissieried(?) bird that they are making right at their stand).
Then, in Moultonborough, I stopped at Bart’s Seafood, a small seafood vendor on Route 109, just west of the 109/171 junction. I bought fresh salmon after some nice ladies bought a whole tub of fresh lobsters, including the biggest one in the tank – 6.5lbs!
My final stop was at Ledgewood Farms shop (on Rt. 25 in the financial district of town!). I was too late for strawberries and tomatoes (I’ll get there earlier tomorrow), but I picked up some green garlic, lettuce and a head of broccoli.
Dinner was grilled salmon, sauteed yellow and green squash (already in the fridge) with some of the green garlic, the chard braised with the scapes and grilled sunflower seed bread. Yummy!
Not bad…and on a day when I had the time to shop around. I’ll have to start planning more.
(In looking at my photo, obviously I need some food photo tips!)
