I’m comin’ at ya from the great state of Rhode Island tonight, as I’m here in Providence for a conference.
I’m the only one from my school here, and although I’ve seen a few folks that I know, I was on my own for dinner tonight. Here’s my true confession: I went to The Cheesecake Factory. [...]

Right Back At Ya!

When Bill, at Rock Farm asked us if we were ready for another quarter cow, we quickly took stock of the roasts and steaks in the freezer, and decided to wait for the next round. However, we panicked slightly after we realized that there were only 7 packages of hamburger left, and a whole [...]
Ham and Peeps

Couldn’t resist posting photos of our local, Rock Farm ham. It was pretty darned good, although they’re still working on their smoke, so it wasn’t the BEST ham ever, but it was sure nice to look at, and it really did taste quite good, too. We glazed it with spiced maple syrup/brown sugar with some [...]

Happy Easter!
We’ve had plenty of non-springtime weather around here (aren’t you tired of hearing that from me, yet? I’m tired of seeing it!), and lots of roofs have been shoveled.
My in-law’s dog, Shasta.
Meanwhile, we’ve had plenty of local ingredients in each of our meals, and we’ve been keeping busy maple sugaring.
Our most local meal this [...]

If you were to drive around the still snowy, gray roads around New Hampshire this month, you’d see these:
(I couldn’t find a “Frost Heaves” sign to photograph because they’ve all been plowed under at this point in the season. This does not, by any stretch of the imagination, mean that there are no longer [...]

That’s right, mud. It’s been spotted.
Okay, maybe only in my driveway, and maybe there are still several feet of snow in parts of my yard, but I had to take a picture anyway.
That’s what’s in the header.
Mud.

Here’s what we’ve been eating around here:
Top, L-R: Local spicy Italian sausage and home-canned tomato sauce (in pan & on spaghetti), homemade chicken stock
Middle, L-R: Chicken sausage hash, with sausage from MA, local purple and fingerling potatoes and summer-frozen squash and peppers
Bottom, L-R: Pancakes with regional butter and sauce from summer-frozen berries, spit-roasted, free-range, local [...]

This picture is happy, cheery; a reminder of warmer, greener days.
This is NOT the current state of things (or me) around these parts, and in the name of all things holy, I’m really going to need a little sun and a day or two of temperatures above, say, 35? Please?
With all due respect [...]
It’s Cake!

My husband has spent several days shoveling our roof in order to avoid catastrophe. We’ve gotten quite paranoid about our roof, actually, and not because it’s leaking or creaking or anything, but because a neighbor’s carport recently collapsed, and everyday on the news around here there’s word of another cave-in due to snow load.
I felt [...]

I feel guilty I’m not up there helping, so I’ve got stock on the stove, and a cake cooling, waiting to be frosted!
