This post is about blatantly non-local, processed and corn syrup-containing food.
I will do my penance this weekend at local markets, for it has been at least three months since my last local produce buying experience.
Meanwhile…these are really fun, really easy and satisfy the salt/sweet craving.
I give you, the M&M Pretzel Button (the recipe is all over the internet, and I’m sorry but I can’t remember where I first encountered it, either.):
Turn your oven on its lowest setting.
Line up square pretzels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place a candy kiss (classic chocolate or otherwise) on each pretzel.

Place in oven until kisses are soft but not completely melted.
Gently place M&M on each kiss, pushing it down a little.

Cool until firm.

Aren’t they cute? And they seem like they’d be fun to make with kids. I’d recommend doing one type of kiss at a time, as the white chocolate ones seem to melt at a different rate than the classics. I’d also recommend putting the “M” face down on the kiss. The peppermint kisses are yummy.
Dammit, they’re fun.

Curse you for posting this! I MUST make these, they look fab and I LOVE sweet and salty…. Hmmm, do peanut butter chocolate kisses exist? I’m glad I brought my car today…. I’ll justify this by making some for the papergirl and the postman!

Ali, I hate to tell you but I think some kind of peanut butter kiss does exist. I know there are caramel kisses. Whatever you end up with, I know they’ll be yummy!
I made them tonight, just in time for Dan to bring to school to share with his colleagues, thanks!
I couldn’t find pb kisses, but I did find pb m&ms. I made some with plain kisses and some with dark chocolate. And yes, they are so very good. And that is not good, no, not good at all.

Kim, thanks for the comment on my blog, I just saw it. I pretty much stopped after the challenge.Posting not eating.I will start again after the holidays. I love the pretzel goodie those are definetley going to the neighbors. hava a great holiday.
Ooh. I’ve had similar with Rolos, but these look yum. Hey we can’t eat local ALL the time! Did you check out Tamworth Market? It was great. We tried to buy something from each “farmer.” Including wool, cranberries, carrots, garlic, onions, bread, bagels, eggs, cheese, chevre, dog biscuits and a small beeswax figurine that Eli begged for because it smelled so good.
We were thrilled that they held the market and hope they’ll consider another one before June!
Jen – I did get to the Tamworth market. I had no idea about Madison Bagels, yum! We stocked upon eggs, garlic and dog biscuits, too! I do hope they continue the tradition. I was sad not to get to Dover, but the roads just really never cleared up enough on Saturday to make the drive.
Mmmm. You’ve now got me trying to figure out whether this would work with Taza chocolate, and instead of M&Ms putting dollops of Teddie peanut butter. Can’t turn off the locavore in me!
VY: Good thinking!
